What is the best horse for jumping and english riding?
I am 13 and really want a horse. My parents might get me one.I am just now learning english and I want to start jumping. What horse would be best for me?
You sound like your very inexperienced in Show Jumping/ English riding.
If your parents buy you a horse, buy on you can to learn on, you should get a horse that is very experienced and can teach you how to ride/jump.
I would start with a horse over 10 years old (preferably over 15, that comes from a jumping background) so they can teach you the ins and outs of jumping.
Geldings have a (normally) great nature, that is normally less moodier then a mare, and if this is your first horse, NEVER but a stallion, until you have been riding for a few years and have a good seat.
Any horse can be a jumper, it just depends what level of jumping you want to do.
You never said how long you have been riding, so if you have been riding for only a few months/weeks, hold off buying a horse for a few years, especially if you come from a non- horse-riding family, as your parents might have to sell your horse, due to the fact that, as your only 13, you will probably find other hobbies and your parents might end up getting up early in the morning and looking after your horse,
there is alot of money put in owning a horse, and if you can only afford to buy the horse, let alone feed, boarding, lessons, saddlery ect then you arn’t ready to have a horse. Just keep on doing lessons and being around horses to build up experience.
it really depends on your experience. I wouldn’t get a horse under the age of 10 because you don’t have that much experience riding I’m guessing. So basically you’re looking for a mellow horse. If you want to jump, it should be decently tall but that isn’t always a limit because I know ponies can jump high too. haha. I would say look around, ride the horse before you buy it, ask lots of questions, cover ALL DETAILS because you don’t want to find out that something is wrong with the horse later. Good luck(:
Your not ready yet. "My parents might get me one". The fact that you are just starting english also says that you may think you are better than you really are. It takes years to properly know and be comfortable around horses. It would help you alot more if your parents knew about horses, rather than having their kid who might not even know what type of feed to feed a horse have full responsibility. Please wait until you are more experienced. Any girl starting out riding will want a horse. Just wait a few more years until you are sure you can handle the responsibility. You have to think about things in advance. What is going to happen to him when you go to college? Do you have enough time to care for him every day or at least 4 days a week if you are boarding him? Can you handle the expenses? Horses are NOT cheap. Vet bills, feed costs, farrier, riding lessons, board, ect. It adds up FAST.
Also "what is the best horse for jumping and english"… that says that you don’t know breeds. There isn’t one specific horse that is best. Any breed can jump and be ridden. But certain breeds are more gifted and actually bred specifically for riding, jumping, driving, ect. It depends on your size, confidence, and level of experience as a rider. As a beginner you need a bomb proof and calm, horse. But please, you are not ready yet. Do more research and spend more time around horses. Learn more.
Lol, I really don’t think the people who are saying ‘you are not ready yet’ have anything to do with weather you should get one or not. Don’t listen to them, if you feel ready to get a horse, then you probably are.
It really all depends on the horse. I would go for a 14.2 horse that has ‘been there, done that got the teeshirt’ kinda thing. It would probably need to be a little bit older like 10 years, but then again – you can get a hyper 30 year old and a really placid 6 year old.
Just look around on the internet, see the descriptions, and try the horse out!. But remember, take time in finding the right horse for you. Take an instructor with you to make sure you have some experience.
Good luck! Make a question on saying how it goes
I think you’re the perfect age for a horse!
If you would like to stay in jumping, I think that thoroughbreds (abbreviated TB) are a very good choice. They are athletic, reasonably priced, and do a great job in the jumping arena.
You will want to be sure that the horse that you decide to buy passes a vet check before you buy him/her. That way, the vet can tell you if the horse has anything wrong.
Until you get your horse, keep riding and taking lessons. You sound like you really enjoy it.
just think about it, you shouldnt be jumping on your own without a coach anyways but you should get any breed, but has a passion for jumping.
