We have an 18 year old barrel horse with arthritis in his right back leg. What is the best thing to give her for this?

My horse is 14 years old, and I’m just teaching him games, because he is a pleasure horse. He’s very slow, but it’s okay because he is just learning. I’m starting to go to more shows these days, and I was wondering what the best way would be to teach my horse to barrel race and turn better around the barrels?

So i havent really ridden that much over the cold spurt we had in montana (probably about once a week) and its starting to get warm again now im out practicing every day. What is the best weekly program to get a barrel horse back into shape and ready for the competitions? i have a plan sorta worked out by my trainer but i would love to get some more ideas from everyone and kinda develop my own

My horse does great barrel turns, but on the way home she runs hard, but seems to have more to give. Should I run longer sprints in practice? She is a TB/Quarter. Her Father used to race 1-1/2 mile races and won the Belmont in 68.

I am considering driving 13 hours to get a barrel horse in Texas. I live in Minnesota and I am 13 hours from the place where I am going to get the horse. Is this too long of a ride in the trailer, even if I stop every 2 hours? Thanks!

My 11 year old barrel horse is getting windpuffs in his hind legs. This alerted me once again to the stress my horses’ legs take when they run barrels. What can I do to help keep my horses sound?

I would like to use him as a back up barrel horse for high school rodeo. My dad used to use him for heeling but he would always jump to the left, so he gave him to me. I want to teach him the barrel pattern. My main barrel horse is hurt so i need him.

I am trying to build my barrel horse’s muscle. He was a pleasure horse once, but he is doing barrels now. I want him to reach his full potential.
